Apple Sees Big Growth in India, More Stores Coming Soon: Tim Cook

Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared that the company recorded strong earnings for the June quarter in over two dozen countries — with India standing out among the top performers.

During a recent conversation with financial analysts, Cook said that Apple experienced double-digit growth in key areas such as iPhone sales, Mac computers, and services like iCloud and Apple Music.

“We saw faster growth across the world, especially in emerging markets like India, South Asia, the Middle East, and Brazil,” Cook said.

iPhones Driving Sales in India

In all parts of the world where Apple operates, iPhone sales showed improvement. India especially showed impressive numbers. According to Counterpoint Research, Apple achieved a record-breaking quarter in India, with iPhone sales growing significantly. The iPhone 16 turned out to be the most popular model shipped in India during this period.

Tarun Pathak, Research Director at Counterpoint, shared that Apple captured 7% of smartphone volumes and 23% of total smartphone revenue in India during this quarter. This shows that while Apple phones are premium, they still contributed a large share of earnings.

Services and Mac Also on the Rise

Apple’s Mac business showed a 15% increase compared to the same quarter last year. Additionally, the services segment (which includes things like Apple Pay, subscriptions, and iCloud) grew by 13% globally, with strong results in both developed and emerging countries.

India Becomes Key Manufacturing Hub

An important highlight this quarter was the major increase in Apple’s manufacturing efforts in India. Tim Cook revealed that a large number of iPhones sold in the U.S. now carry a ‘Made in India’ label, showing India’s growing role in Apple’s global supply chain.

As per Counterpoint Research, India’s share in iPhone exports to the U.S. has jumped to 71% in Q2 this year — a big leap from 31% during the same time last year.

New Apple Stores in India

Cook also confirmed Apple’s commitment to grow its presence in India by opening more physical Apple Stores later this year. This is part of their plan to reach more customers directly and offer better in-store experiences.

The company recently launched Apple’s online store in Saudi Arabia, and new physical stores will also open soon in the UAE and India.

Impact of Global Tariffs

On the topic of tariffs (import duties), Tim Cook said that Apple had to bear around $800 million in extra costs in the June quarter due to these taxes. If things remain the same, the cost could rise to $1.1 billion in the September quarter.

However, he also mentioned that this estimate might change, depending on how global trade policies develop over the next few months.

At Jan Jagran Darpan, we believe Apple’s performance in India reflects the country’s increasing importance in the global tech economy — not just as a growing market, but also as a manufacturing powerhouse. We will continue to keep a close watch on how this expansion benefits Indian consumers, jobs, and the digital ecosystem.
