New Delhi, Sep 17 — Aazad Samaj Party chief and MP Chandrashekhar Aazad on Thursday announced that the party will stage a one-day protest at the national capital's Jantar Mantar on September 24 regarding the reservation issue.
Speaking to reporters in the capital, he said: "There is a protest at Jantar Mantar on the 24th. We will see whether the government discusses the issue with us in the same way and takes appropriate action, like it was discussing it with those opposing reservation. This is because the issue of reservation in promotions for SCs, STs, and OBCs has been pending since 2012."
Meanwhile, Chandrashekhar Aazad also spoke about an alleged attack on his convoy in Barabanki while he was on his way to meet the family of Vinod Kumar Sahani, the 'Nishad' community trader who was purportedly killed over a social media dispute.
Terming the incident as "conspiracy", he said: "There was a complete attempt to kill me. My colleagues were repeatedly threatened, with people telling them that their vehicles would be set on fire...There must be some conspiracy behind this."
Earlier, he leveled serious allegations against Barabanki Police, alleging that the incident took place in the presence of police personnel.
The Parliamentarian said: "The main demand is that our second application should be registered and that action should be taken against the concerned officials whose names have been mentioned. These officials should be suspended from their posts because as long as they remain in those positions, they may misuse their powers."
He further said that the video footage of the incident should also be preserved so that the judiciary does not face any difficulty in taking cognizance of the offence that has been committed.
"We are currently trying to proceed only through constitutional means. We have achieved some progress, such as our FIR being registered, in which the names of the concerned officials, including the woman SI, Inspector and ACP, have been mentioned," Azad stated.
However, the MP asserted that the police cannot be suppressed.
"I agree that they have delayed taking action but our police are our pride. Some police personnel may be at fault, but not all of them can be blamed. If that were the case, it would create distrust," Chandrashekhar Azad said.
He further said: "The FIR regarding the attack on me was registered today. There is evidence of how photographs of Babasaheb Ambedkar displayed on the vehicles and placards were torn down and trampled under foot, and how party workers were beaten... this is the law-and-order system of Uttar Pradesh."
