Patna, Aug 25 — The ‘Anemia‑Free Bihar’ (Anaemia Mukt Bihar) campaign was launched on Tuesday, with Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary virtually inaugurating the programme in Patna.
The main event was held at the Civil Surgeon’s auditorium at Sadar Hospital, Bhabhua, in Kaimur district.
Modelled on the Centre’s ‘Anaemia-Free India’ initiative, the campaign aims to identify people suffering from anaemia through widespread screening and provide timely treatment.
On the first day, health workers tested haemoglobin levels for around 100 beneficiaries. Those requiring treatment were given iron syrup, tablets and calcium supplements.
District Immunisation Officer RK Chaudhary said the campaign will continue in Kaimur from August 25 to November 30. Screening facilities will be available at Sadar Hospital and health centres across all blocks, with a target to screen 250 people daily in each block.
ASHA workers will play a key role by creating awareness, encouraging residents to undergo screening and helping them reach health facilities. Medicines and treatment will be provided based on screening results.
Civil Surgeon Chandeshwari Rajak said information about every beneficiary will be uploaded to the ‘Anemia‑Free’ portal, enabling systematic records of testing and treatment.
The campaign will also cover Anganwadi centres and schools. Screening will be conducted among nine‑year‑old children, adolescents aged 10–19 years, women of reproductive age, pregnant and lactating women, men and other eligible groups.
The department presented certificates to beneficiaries who underwent screening during the launch.
On Tuesday, activities were organised at Sadar Hospital, Bhabua, and Sub‑divisional Hospital, Mohania, marking the start of the district‑wide campaign.
The Health Department’s objective is to expand screening, identify anaemia cases early and ensure appropriate medicines and care.
