Kolkata, Aug 3 — The state government on Monday posted three IPS officers from the Intelligence Branch (IB) to the Anti‑Corruption Branch (ACB) of West Bengal Police with immediate effect, a government official said.
The officers are IGP (IB) Murli Dhar, DIG (IB) Akash Magharia and Senior Superintendent (IB) Kamanasish Sen.
An order issued by the Home and Hill Affairs Department’s Police Service Cell stated: “The following IPS officers are hereby posted at the Directorate of Anti‑Corruption Branch, West Bengal on deputation basis until further orders with immediate effect.”
In a parallel move, the DGP issued a separate communication deputing 16 police personnel, including one deputy superintendent of police, inspectors, sub‑inspectors and constables from various units, to the Anti‑Corruption Branch for a period of two months.
The personnel have been directed to report to the Anti‑Corruption Branch by 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
The Anti‑Corruption Branch investigates allegations against government employees and officials under the state government.
Several allegations of institutional corruption came to light during the previous Trinamool Congress government era, including alleged irregularities in Amphan Cyclone relief fund distribution and Sebaashray health camp projects.
Officials were reportedly involved in these cases.
It is believed that after the reorganisation of the Anti‑Corruption Branch, investigations into these allegations will gain momentum, and the names of accused officials will be made public.
Initiatives have been taken to restructure the Anti‑Corruption Branch so that the newly elected government does not face problems due to corruption among officials.
Recently, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the Anti‑Corruption Branch was being restructured and warned that government officials would be jailed if they took money.
He also held a meeting on the matter. Following this, three experienced IPS officers and 16 other officers were appointed to the ACB on Monday.
