'Biggest enemy is anyone attacking democracy or Constitution': UP Cong chief on PM Modi’s 'nation's enemies' remarks

New Delhi, Oct 21 — Uttar Pradesh Congress President, Aradhana Misra Mona, has said that standing united against the enemies of the country is a national duty, while asserting that the "biggest enemy" at present is anyone attacking democracy or the Indian Constitution.

Her remarks came in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal on Vijayadashami for political parties and citizens to unite against forces undermining India’s honour, dignity, social harmony and cultural heritage.

Speaking to IANS, she said, “Standing united against the enemies of the country is our national duty, and all of us must uphold our constitutional responsibilities. However, I would like to say one thing: India is the largest democracy in the world, and today, democracy is under threat. The corruption and irregularities coming to light in the name of the SIR are deeply concerning. The biggest enemy at present is one who is attacking democracy or the Constitution.”

Meanwhile, JD(U) National Spokesperson, Rajiv Ranjan, described PM Modi’s appeal as relevant and important.

“No one should hesitate to acknowledge today that countless martyrs sacrificed their lives and numerous freedom fighters endured torture in prison to free Mother India from the shackles of slavery, after which the country attained its Tricolour,” he said.

Earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi urged citizens to recognise and confront those who harm the country’s prestige, sow division and promote hatred towards India’s culture. Referring to the teachings of ancient seers, he said all political parties and institutions should remain united against the nation’s enemies.

The Prime Minister’s message called for collective resolve and strength in defence of “Maa Bharati”.

PM Modi emphasised that India's faith in Lord Ram spans thousands of years and is rooted not merely in the defeat of Ravana but in the unparalleled ideals Lord Ram offered to humanity.

"Lord Ram faced so many difficulties in his life, but he never left the path of truth and policy," the Prime Minister said.

He recalled that Lord Ram showed neither joy at gaining the throne nor sorrow at going to the forest, and that he upheld dharma through every crisis.
