Patna, July 25 — Nationwide student protests over alleged irregularities in the NEET‑UG examination have triggered sharp political reactions, with leaders of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) describing the movement as a victory for student‑led protests while demanding greater accountability from the Union government.
Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, welcomed the development, stating that the struggle reflected the triumph of truth, rights, struggle and justice.
“Truth, rights, struggle and justice have prevailed. The oppressive government’s lies, tactics and arrogance have been defeated. Congratulations to the students and youth. However, many questions remain unanswered, and the country’s conscious youth will continue to seek accountability,” Tejashwi Yadav said in a post on his official X handle.
RJD National President Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya termed the outcome a victory of public pressure, though a delayed decision. She alleged that the government’s attempts to conceal its failures had ultimately failed, arguing that public anger had forced action rather than moral responsibility.
“The resignation of one minister alone cannot deliver justice to affected students. The government must explain the reasons behind this administrative failure and outline concrete measures to prevent such irregularities in the future. The investigation must be fair, transparent and completed promptly,” she said.
RJD Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha described the protests as the first political defeat of the Modi government. “This reflects the victory of the country’s youth and the democratic principle of accountability. Students across the nation continued their struggle despite immense pressure. However, this is not the end. A more transparent, accountable and credible education system must now be built,” he said.
He further argued that students raising legitimate concerns should not be branded anti‑national and said the protests reflected their commitment to protecting the integrity of the country’s education system.
RJD state spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed said the outcome was the result of sustained student protests and pressure from opposition parties.
“The government ultimately realised that the student movement had grown into a nationwide public movement that could no longer be suppressed. The alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and other recruitment tests must now be thoroughly investigated,” he said.
Reacting similarly, RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan called the development a victory of student and youth power and said it demonstrated the strength of Indian democracy.
He contended that the action was made under political compulsion rather than as an act of moral responsibility.
“Had it been a moral resignation, it would have come immediately after the paper leak controversy emerged. The protests across the country forced the government to act,” Gagan said.
Opposition parties have maintained that this is only the first step and have continued to call for comprehensive reforms to restore confidence in India’s education and examination system.
