Bihar: Students clash with police outside AKU in Patna over exam result row

Patna, Aug 25 — A confrontation broke out outside Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU) in Patna on Tuesday after a large group of students gathered to protest alleged irregularities in examination results.

The incident occurred at the AKU campus, which houses the Bihar University of Health Sciences and falls under the jurisdiction of Jakkanpur police station. Officials said the situation escalated into a clash between protesting students and police personnel deployed at the spot.

Students allegedly confronted the police, with some reportedly snatching batons and assaulting personnel. Police officers retreated towards the university campus as the confrontation intensified.

Two police personnel were injured, including a female officer. Another officer, identified as Jitendra Kumar, sustained head and leg injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Videos circulating from the scene show a police officer lying near the university gate while several students assault him. Some students can reportedly be heard asking others to stop the assault. The officer eventually retreated to safety.

Reports also indicated that some students attempted to enter the university campus and that property and vehicles were damaged during the disturbance. Windshields of vehicles belonging to passersby were smashed, while university staff members were also allegedly confronted.

Students claimed police had resorted to a lathi‑charge while they were attempting to raise concerns about the examination results.

Following the escalation, additional police forces reached the university and eventually brought the situation under control.

A police contingent remains deployed outside the campus, with security arrangements strengthened amid continuing tension.

The immediate trigger for the protest was students’ allegations of irregularities in examination results.

The allegations, as well as the circumstances leading to the clash, will require verification by the authorities.
