Bihar: Two killed in Begusarai road accident; another in Bhagalpur

Patna, Oct 26 — Two people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and an Apache motorcycle on State Highway 55 (SH-55) near Mohanpur in Bihar’s Begusarai district on Monday, triggering panic at the accident site.

The deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar, alias Munna Ji, 48, son of Ramashish Prasad Singh and a resident of Sarvodaya Nagar under the Nagar police station area, and Ranjeet Sharma, son of Chhattu Sharma and a resident of Pahadchak village under the Lohiyanagar police station area of Begusarai.

According to an official, the accident occurred when the truck and the motorcycle collided head-on near Mohanpur.

The impact was severe, killing both motorcycle occupants. However, the exact circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear.

Upon receiving information, a police team led by Muffassil police station SHO Manoj Kumar reached the spot.

The police took custody of the bodies and sent them to Sadar Hospital in Begusarai for post-mortem examinations.

The truck reportedly remained at the accident site, while a crowd gathered following the incident.

Police personnel initiated the necessary legal formalities and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The deaths have plunged the families of both victims into mourning.

The incident has also renewed concerns over road safety on SH-55.

Although high-speed driving has been cited as a broader concern in road accidents, police have not officially confirmed whether speeding or any other factor caused this particular collision.

The exact cause will be established after the investigation.

In another fatal accident, a 22-year-old e-rickshaw driver was killed, and six passengers were injured after a speeding Hiwa truck collided head-on with the vehicle near Rasulpur police station in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district early Monday.

The accident occurred on the Ekchari-Mohanpur main road in the Kahalgaon area.

The impact was so severe that the e-rickshaw was badly mangled. Three of the injured passengers were reported to be in critical condition and were referred to Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) in Bhagalpur for advanced treatment.

The deceased was identified as Amit Kumar, son of Luteshwar Thakur and a resident of Silhan Khajuria village under Sanokhar police station.

He earned his livelihood by driving an e-rickshaw and was the second of four siblings.

The injured were identified as Brajesh Tanti, 26, of Silhan Khajuria; Bhuvneshwar Paswan, 50, of Bhiraundha; and Prince Kumar, 18, Rozi Devi, 40, Ayush Kumar, 12, and Rajesh Mandal, 50, all from the Basantray police station area.

Following the collision, residents rushed to the spot and rescued the injured from the wreckage before taking them to a nearby health centre.

After providing first aid, doctors referred Brajesh Tanti, Bhuvneshwar Paswan and Rajesh Mandal to JLNMCH due to the severity of their injuries.

The remaining injured are undergoing treatment at a local facility.
