Patna, Nov 4 — The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) of Bihar on Wednesday conducted simultaneous raids at multiple locations linked to Vijay Kumar, a Superintending Engineer in the Road Construction Department, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.
The raids were carried out across three districts — Saharsa, Patna and Aurangabad — as part of an investigation into allegations that the engineer had accumulated assets beyond his known sources of income.
According to sources, approximately Rs 10 lakh in cash has been recovered so far during the searches.
The SVU teams are also examining property documents, bank accounts, investment records and other financial documents to ascertain the extent of the assets allegedly accumulated by the engineer.
The searches covered several locations associated with Vijay Kumar, including his government office and residence in Saharsa.
In Patna, SVU teams conducted raids at premises on Gola Road and Mahesh Nagar, both in the Danapur area. Searches were also carried out at his residence and other properties in Daudnagar, Aurangabad, his home district.
The coordinated raids have triggered a stir in administrative and departmental circles.
Sources said the investigation is focused on comparing the engineer's known sources of income with the assets acquired by him. The agency is scrutinising documents related to immovable properties, financial investments, bank transactions, and other suspected assets.
The SVU launched the operation after a case was registered in connection with allegations of disproportionate assets against the engineer.
The agency has not yet released a detailed official statement on the total cash, documents, and other assets recovered.
The full extent and value of the assets allegedly accumulated by Vijay Kumar will become clear after the searches are completed and the seized documents are examined.
The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) keeps a close watch on government officials by examining their declared sources of income and annual asset disclosures and comparing them with their actual accumulated wealth.
If the agency finds a discrepancy between an officer's declared income and assets and their actual wealth, it can initiate an investigation and take legal action against them on charges of possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
