San Francisco, Aug 17 — Gujarat Chief Minister, Bhupendra Patel, arrived in San Francisco on Monday with a state delegation, beginning the United States leg of his overseas outreach aimed at attracting investment and strengthening participation in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2027.
Patel was welcomed at San Francisco Airport by leaders of the Gujarati community, who greeted him with the Indian Tricolour.
The Chief Minister is scheduled to begin his US engagements with a meeting with members of the Gujarati community in San Francisco.
The visit is part of Patel's August 17-24 tour of the United States and Canada, during which he is expected to meet investors, industry associations, emerging technology leaders and members of the Gujarati diaspora to promote the state as an investment destination and invite participation in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.
The Gujarat delegation is scheduled to hold roundtable conferences and one-to-one meetings in San Francisco, Washington DC and New York before travelling to Toronto in Canada.
The engagements will focus on presenting Gujarat's development and investment opportunities and exploring prospects for greater foreign investment in the state.
Patel is accompanied by Chief Secretary M.K. Das; Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department, T. Natarajan; Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries and Mines Department, Mamta Verma; Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sanjeev Kumar; and Additional Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Dr Vikrant Pandey.
Representatives of Gujarat's trade and industry sector are also part of the delegation.
The industry delegation includes representatives from 22 companies, with senior business leaders from sectors including manufacturing, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, energy and technology.
Patel's US visit is significant as it is being reported as the first official visit by a sitting Gujarat Chief Minister to the country in more than 25 years.
The tour follows the state's preparations for the next edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, which is scheduled to be held in January 2027.
