Kolkata, July 30 — Despite the West Bengal government facing huge financial debt and lack of infrastructure, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday highly appreciated the work being done by the state police amid these adversities.
At the same time, the Chief Minister conveyed that he will now directly listen to the grievances of the lower-level police personnel.
Chief Minister Adhikari attended an event at the Barrackpore Police Training School in North 24 Parganas district where he also attended lunch with the police personnel.
While speaking before the lunch, the Chief Minister discussed the role of the state police in detail.
He highlighted the exact position of the West Bengal Police in terms of other states.
The Chief Minister admitted the poor financial condition of the state.
Chief Minister Adhikari said, "If there were some good things in the previous practices, there were many bad things. Then cut your coat according to your cloth. There is a lot of debt in this state."
The Chief Minister's speech spoke about the daily struggle of the police personnel.
He also mentioned that he knows what kind of problems the police face while doing their duty in remote areas.
Acknowledging the infrastructural deficiencies, the Chief Minister said, "Overall, you are in a lot of trouble, we know. You have to work in remote areas. There is no place to stay, no purified drinking water, logistical support, cars, horses, etc. There are many shortcomings."
However, despite all these problems, Chief Minister Adhikari highlighted the successes achieved by the police in the last few weeks.
He especially praised the role of the police in ensuring women's safety, combating corruption and border security.
The Chief Minister said, "Even in that (adversities), you can do it. Because in the last two months or ten weeks, you have done a lot of good work, be it in combating corruption, maintaining law and order, arresting identified criminals, securing borders, identifying infiltrators or in providing security to our mothers, sisters, daughters."
He believes that the police have set a very good example in this short time as a disciplined force.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister made a big announcement to boost the morale of the lower-level police personnel.
He made it clear that he will not only fulfill his responsibility by meeting high-ranking officers.
He will also listen to the views of lower-level police personnel.
The Chief Minister said, "You will be fine. Your Minister will be with you. There will be meetings not only with IPS, DG, ADG, IG. I will also listen to your pains, grievances, and grievances."
