New Delhi, Aug 15 — Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta hoisted the National Flag at his official residence on Saturday and emphasised commitment to democratic values and national development.
The solemn ceremony was marked by patriotic fervour and ceremonial dignity, featuring a ceremonial Guard of Honour presented by security personnel, according to a statement.
As the Tricolour unfurled amidst showering rose petals, Gupta offered his respects and saluted the National Flag, symbolising the nation’s pride, sovereignty, and unity.
Extending his greetings to the citizens, Gupta conveyed his heartiest congratulations and best wishes on Independence Day.
He paid homage to the freedom fighters and national heroes whose extraordinary sacrifices paved the way for India's freedom.
Emphasising the commitment toward democratic values and national development, Gupta reiterated the resolve to contribute dedicatedly toward building a prosperous, harmonious, and strong nation.
On the occasion of Independence Day, the Assembly premises are organising special programmes over two days, including special illumination of the premises and an invitation to citizens to visit the legislature.
On the eve of Independence Day, the Assembly Speaker said, "On this sacred occasion of Independence Day, I extend my heartiest greetings and warmest wishes to every citizen of Delhi and all Indians across the globe."
Speaker Gupta added: "As we step into our 80th Independence Day, the historic Vidhan Sabha stands as a beacon of our rich democratic legacy and national pride. May this day renew our pledge to protect India's Constitutional values, strengthen unity, and collectively work towards the growth and progress of our national capital."
Citizens thronged the historic 115-year-old Delhi Assembly on Friday for the eve of 80th Independence Day celebrations, turning the iconic premises into a lively hub of patriotic energy.
Opening its doors to the public from 5 to 8 p.m., families and visitors, especially young people, stroll through the Assembly grounds, exploring its rich heritage and taking in the architectural grandeur of the institution.
On Friday, excitement filled the air as visitors gathered to enjoy the spirited performances by the BSF Band and the CRPF Band, cheering and clapping along to stirring patriotic compositions.
