Gujarat CM heads to New York after Washington investment outreach

Washington, Aug 20 — Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel departed for New York by train on Thursday with the state delegation after concluding his engagements in Washington, DC, as the state government continues its overseas investment outreach ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Investors Summit 2027.

Patel is on a week-long visit to the US and Canada to attract foreign investors and industries to Gujarat and invite global businesses to participate in the summit.

The delegation began its US engagements in San Francisco before moving to Washington and will now continue its programme in New York, followed by engagements in Toronto.

The Washington leg focused on investment opportunities across the state and outreach to the Gujarati diaspora.

At an event organised by the Vishv Umiya Foundation, Patel highlighted opportunities in GIFT City, semiconductors, artificial intelligence, data centres, biotechnology and the hotel and hospitality sector.

Urging overseas Gujaratis to invest in GIFT City, Patel said Gujaratis around the world had created wealth and capital through hard work, and that investing in the financial hub could channel this capital into Gujarat's development while also benefiting investors and strengthening the state's financial economy.

He also highlighted Gujarat's financial discipline and administrative system as key strengths, saying the state had pursued development on the foundation of good governance, discipline and transparency.

"Gujarat is seeking to expand investment in new-age sectors, with infrastructure, an industry-friendly environment, financial ecosystem and government policies creating opportunities in semiconductors and data centres," he said.

He also pointed to the potential for investment in biotechnology and AI.

The Chief Minister said Gujarat's development strategy is not limited to economic growth, but also included improvements in water, electricity, urban amenities and other essential services.

The hospitality sector was another area highlighted during the Washington outreach, with Patel saying Gujarat had considerable scope for investment in tourism, hotels and hospitality as industrial and business activity expands.

The Washington engagements followed meetings in San Francisco with technology and investment leaders. The Gujarat delegation held discussions with more than 100 representatives from semiconductor, AI, DeepTech, EdTech, HealthTech and gaming sectors.

On the third day, Patel also met representatives of Micron, Google, Perplexity AI and TiE to discuss potential collaborations in semiconductors, AI, data centres, skills and research and development.

The delegation's New York engagements will form the next leg of the investment outreach before the Chief Minister and officials proceed to Canada.

The state government is using the overseas visit to present its industrial and emerging-technology ecosystem and seek greater participation in the January 2027 summit.
