Gujarat Dy CM to return land documents to farmers tomorrow

Rajkot, Oct 14 — Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi will return land documents covering more than 500 vighas, worth crores of rupees, to farmers in Rajkot district after the Rural Police recovered them during an investigation into alleged fraudulent land transactions.

The documents were recovered following action against accused persons who allegedly took possession of farmers’ land and documents fraudulently, trapping them in a cycle of debt and high-interest payments.

Rajkot Rural Police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cases and recover the land taken from the farmers.

With the cooperation of the Sub-Registrar’s Office, the police administration recovered the documents, which will be handed back to the farmers by Sanghavi at a programme scheduled for October 15.

During the visit, the Deputy Chief Minister will also inaugurate the newly constructed office of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of the Rajkot Rural Division in Shapar.

The facility is expected to support policing and law-and-order management in Rajkot city, nearby industrial areas, rural areas and newly developed localities.

The programme will also see ISO 9001:2015 certification presented to all police stations, branches and offices under the Rajkot Rural Police District.

Rajkot has been identified as the first district in Gujarat to receive the certification, which relates to quality management systems.

According to the programme details, the certification reflects standards maintained by the district police in their work processes, cleanliness, record management and transparency.

A report on 'Prerna: Nava Jivan Ni', an initiative launched by Rajkot Rural Police to prevent suicides, will also be released during the event.

Under the initiative, around 700 people have received counselling and support to help them cope with suicidal thoughts and find hope in life.

The programme will bring together the land-document recovery, inauguration of the new police office, presentation of the quality-management certification and release of the report on the suicide-prevention initiative.
