Shimla, Aug 25 — Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the corruption during the tenure of the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and criticised the Opposition’s conduct in the Assembly.
Speaking to reporters in the House, the Chief Minister said the White Paper Committee formed to investigate irregularities committed during the previous government’s tenure would soon present all facts to the people.
He alleged that the Opposition had no concrete issues and was engaged in “issueless politics”.
Expressing objection to the Opposition’s walkout on the issue of employment, Sukhu said the matter had been discussed in detail for about half an hour during Question Hour.
He noted that the Speaker had given the Opposition ample opportunity to ask questions.
“Despite this, going beyond the rules and insisting on asking additional questions and then walking out of the House is not in keeping with parliamentary decorum,” he said.
The Chief Minister clarified that the ruling party would not back down from discussing or answering any issue. He said the House still had many important matters related to health, employment and public welfare to discuss.
“The government is fully prepared to face every sharp question from the Opposition and respond with facts, but the Opposition is looking for excuses to walk out instead of participating in the debate,” he added.
Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh had suffered the most from the Agniveer scheme, which had impacted the economy of military‑dominated districts such as Kangra, Bilaspur, Una and Hamirpur.
He reiterated his support for regular recruitment into the army, saying the reduced recruitment quota had disappointed Himachal’s youth.
He described the Agniveer scheme as an injustice to Himachal, the land of four Param Vir Chakra winners, and to the country’s soldiers.
To employ the youth, Sukhu said the state government had recruited 1,300 police constables and would fill another 1,000 posts in the future.
He added that the government was committed to veterans' welfare.
