Patna, Aug 10 — Weather conditions in Bihar are expected to change rapidly over the next 72 hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna, has issued a Yellow Alert for more than 20 districts from August 11 to August 13, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph in several parts of the state.
The Meteorological Department has advised farmers and the general public to remain cautious during adverse weather and avoid open areas, particularly when thunderstorms and lightning occur.
On August 11, the weather impact is expected mainly in Seemanchal and the eastern and southwestern parts of Bihar. Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnea and Katihar may experience lightning and strong winds. Thunderstorms are also forecast in Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Arwal.
Meanwhile, comparatively stable weather is expected in several central and northern districts, including Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Bhagalpur.
On August 12, the weather system is expected to shift towards North Bihar and Seemanchal. A Yellow Alert has been issued for West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Madhubani, Gopalganj, Siwan, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Saran, Vaishali and Samastipur, where gusty winds and lightning are likely. In contrast, Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Rohtas, Gaya, Nawada and Aurangabad are expected to remain in the Green Zone.
On August 13, the alert will continue across North Bihar and parts of eastern Bihar, including Munger, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Banka and Jamui. Heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong squalls is particularly likely around Kishanganj and Katihar. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms may continue in other parts of North and East Bihar. Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Aurangabad and Rohtas are expected to remain in the Green Zone.
The administration and weather authorities have urged people to remain alert during thunderstorms, avoid standing under isolated trees or in open fields, and follow official weather advisories. They have been advised to stay under concrete houses during rain and lightning strikes.
