Srinagar, July 23 — Jammu and Kashmir Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting in the aftermath of the terror attack in Anantnag town, in which one local policeman was killed and also discussed the weather-related issues which have affected the Amarnath Yatra movement.
Manoj Sinha said on X, “Chaired a high-level security review meeting today in Srinagar with senior officials from the Army, J&K Police, Civil Administration, CAPFs, and key security agencies."
“Also, comprehensively reviewed logistics and safety arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in light of the recent inclement weather and heavy rainfall across the region. Instructed all departments to maintain seamless coordination and ensure the safety, well-being and convenience of all pilgrims of Baba Barfani,” he said.
Due to inclement weather, the Amarnath Yatra remained suspended on Thursday.
The security detail was also reviewed after the terror attack on Wednesday in Anantnag town.
Head Constable Ashiq Hussain was killed by terrorists after being shot at point-blank range in Anantnag’s Lal Chowk area.
Taking aggressive steps against the terrorists and their sympathisers, J&K Police rounded up over 3,000 overground workers (OGWs) of terrorists from different districts of the Valley. The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the Anantnag terror attack. TRF is an offshoot of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and has been claiming responsibility for terror attacks carried out by the LeT since 2019.
While condemning the terrorist attack, L-G Manoj Sinha vowed that those responsible for the policeman’s killings would be avenged and they would be brought to justice soon.
A massive manhunt has been underway by the security forces to trace the assailants, and the police have also released a picture of the terrorist, requesting the public to report if they have seen the terrorist.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held at the district police lines in Anantnag to honour the martyred policeman. Hundreds of locals attended his funeral at his native village in Beerwah area of Budgam district.
