Srinagar, Sept 18 — The police in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district said on Friday that it has attached a residential house acquired through proceeds of drug trade.
A statement said that as part of its continued crackdown on narcotics-related activities, Shopian Police have attached a residential house constructed on land measuring 1,065 square feet, bearing Khasra/Survey No. 1327, situated at Melhura village valued at Rs 16,56,385, belonging to Farooq Ahmad Shah, the adopted son of Ghulam Hassan Shah and a resident of Melhura village.
In addition, cash amounting to Rs 4,73,500 has also been frozen/seized.
The residential property and cash were identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics.
Accordingly, the residential house and cash have been attached/frozen under Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act in connection with an FIR lodged in Zainapora Police Station.
The attachment/freezing proceedings were carried out in the presence of a duly constituted police team, Executive Magistrate, Lambardar and Chowkidar ensuring compliance with the prescribed legal procedures and maintaining transparency throughout the proceedings.
Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs by targeting not only those involved in illicit drug-related activities, but also the financial assets and properties linked to such activities.
The general public is urged to come forward and share any information regarding drug trafficking or related activities with the police.
In addition to punitive actions prescribed for drug smuggling and peddling, authorities are using other coercive actions to deal with the menace.
Cancellation of passport, driving license, Aadhaar card and attachment of properties acquired through drug trade are other preventive steps taken by the authorities.
So far, thousands of drug peddlers and key syndicate operators have been apprehended in ongoing operations by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
Authorities have cancelled hundreds of driving licenses and vehicle registrations linked to narcotics transport, alongside suspending numerous non-compliant pharmaceutical and drug store licenses.
