Mumbai, Oct 27 — Singer Kesha has finally released her first-ever music video for her song “Backstabber”, which she shot in 2009 with her friends in downtown Los Angeles, recalling how she made the video to convince everyone that the track deserved to be a single.
Sharing the story behind the video on Instagram, Kesha, whose real name is Kesha Rose Sebert, shared that she and her friends stayed up all night, did their own glam and filmed it themselves.
Sharing a look on the photo-sharing and reel making application, Kesha wrote: “In 2009, I knew I wanted “Backstabber” to be a single, so I took it upon myself to make this video to convince everyone that it deserved its moment. My friends and I stayed up all night, did our own glam, and shot this video!! Everyone in it is one of my best friends.
She described the project as an authentic reflection of that phase of her life, before her career took off and she went from hanging out at the Drunk Tank to touring the world a year later.
“We ran around Echo Park and Silver Lake together and just loved making art. It was so authentic to that moment in my life, before everything changed. Little did I know I’d go from hanging out nightly at the Drunk Tank to touring the whole world a year later. We shot this in downtown LA near the bar where I worked part-time.”
The actress said that it was her “first music video”.
“It was my first music video, and I just knew I needed it to work. Finally… in 2026… it’s OUT! This video will always have a special place in my heart… And thanks to those backstabbers :) I appreciate the inspo.”
Kesha attained two number-one albums on the US Billboard 200 to date, with Animal in 2010 and Rainbow in 2017, and the top-ten records Warrior in 2012 and High Road in 2020.
