Bhopal, Aug 4 — The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday dissolved its entire district organisational structure in Datia, including the district president, office-bearers and all affiliated units, days after the party lost the Datia Assembly by-election to the Congress.
The action came after the party leadership reviewed the bypoll result and discussed the reasons behind the defeat, including allegations of internal sabotage raised by local leaders.
An order issued by BJP Madhya Pradesh State Office Secretary Shyam Mahajan said the decision was taken on the directions of state BJP president Hemant Khandelwal and based on the recommendations of the committee constituted to examine the bypoll outcome.
“As per the directions of Bharatiya Janata Party State President and MLA Hemant Khandelwal, and based on the recommendations of the committee constituted to review the results of the Datia Assembly by-election, the existing organisational structure of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Datia district is hereby dissolved with immediate effect,” the order read.
The order added that district president Raghubir Singh Kushwah, district office-bearers, district executive committee, mandals, morchas, cells, projects, departments and all other organisational units in the district have been relieved of their responsibilities with immediate effect.
The decision followed a review meeting held at Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s residence in Bhopal on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Hemant Khandelwal, senior ministers, leaders associated with the bypoll campaign and key organisational functionaries.
According to party sources, the meeting focused on analysing the reasons for the BJP’s defeat, the performance of the district organisation, complaints of alleged internal sabotage and the party’s strategy for rebuilding its organisational network in Datia.
Sources told IANS that the party’s internal assessment pointed to allegations of sabotage by some local leaders in urban Datia, where the Congress secured a lead despite the BJP expecting to perform strongly.
The Congress retained the seat as its candidate Ghanshyam Singh defeated the BJP nominee Ashutosh Tiwari by 6,016 votes.
Interestingly, the entire Datia district team of the BJP had resigned after the party nominated Ashutosh Tiwari instead of senior leader and former state home minister Narottam Mishra. However, the party had not accepted their resignation at the time.
