MP: BJP stages protest in Bhopal over Kharge’s remarks against PM Modi

Bhopal, Oct 26 — The BJP on Monday staged a protest in Bhopal against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged “derogatory” remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father, accusing the opposition party of violating political decorum.

BJP workers took out a peaceful march from Red Cross Square to the Congress office, where they staged a demonstration and condemned the remarks.

Senior party leaders, including BJP national vice-president Lalsingh Arya, MLA Rameshwar Sharma, Bhagwandas Sabnani and district president Ravindra Yati, addressed the protesters.

The protest comes amid a political row over Kharge’s reported remarks about the Prime Minister’s father, with the BJP accusing the Congress leadership of crossing the limits of political discourse by targeting PM Modi’s family.

Addressing the gathering, Arya alleged that the Congress had resorted to personal attacks while opposing the Prime Minister politically.

“Political opposition and personal insults are two different things. Targeting the family of a political leader is unacceptable and goes against democratic values,” Arya said.

He said political parties had the right to criticise government policies and express differences over decisions, but such disagreements should not lead to personal remarks against family members.

Arya also demanded that the Congress leadership clarify its position on the statement made by its national president, asking whether the party considered the remarks appropriate.

“Political competition should be based on policies, ideologies and issues of public interest, not on targeting the families of political opponents,” he said.

The BJP leader alleged that such statements undermined the dignity of public life and harmed healthy political discourse.

He said leaders of national parties should maintain restraint in their public statements, particularly when political differences were involved.

The protest was attended by MP Alok Sharma, Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, former MP Alok Sanjar, former state BJP vice-president Seema Singh Jadaun, Municipal Corporation chairman Kishan Suryavanshi and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district president Ajay Patidar, among others.

The BJP has repeatedly accused the Congress of using personal attacks against PM Modi, while the opposition has criticised the Prime Minister and his government on various political and policy issues.

The latest protest adds to the continuing political confrontation between the BJP and the Congress, with both parties frequently trading allegations over public statements and political conduct.
