Noida, Sep 10 — The city police busted an inter-state vehicle theft gang on Thursday and recovered multiple stolen vehicles after apprehending two suspects for the crime. A total of 10 stolen motorcycles, two illegal knives, and a fake number plate were recovered from their possession.
According to police, the accused used to steal motorcycles after conducting recce in the Delhi-NCR region. Their modus operandi included stealing vehicles from the neighbourhood and then hiding it at some secret locations.
The suspects came under the police's lens when the latter launched an operation against bike lifters in Sector-63 of Noida. During the search operation, the police team swooped down on the inter-state vehicle theft gang, acting upon local intelligence and confidential information.
The Noida Police nabbed both the suspects near the '25-Futa Road' beneath the Hindon River bridge. The arrested individuals were identified as Shaukat Ali (son of Mohammad Miyan) and Pawan Kumar (son of Ramesh Chandra).
The 32-year-old Shaukat Ali hails from Nai Sarai of Badaun district, while Pawan, 27, is a resident of Tigri village, Gautam Buddha Nagar.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that they would conduct reconnaissance in various areas of Delhi and the NCR to identify locations where motorcycles could be easily stolen.
After stealing motorcycles, the accused would not keep them in a single location; instead, they would park them at various spots such as parking lots, roadsides and green belts.
During interrogation, they agreed to swap stolen motorcycles and also used these bikes for mobile phone snatching incidents. After committing the crimes, the stolen motorcycles would be sold to passersby at low prices.
The police are currently gathering details about all the recovered motorcycles and trying to determine how many of them were stolen from various parts of Delhi-NCR.
The police are working to gather information regarding other members of the gang, original owners of the stolen motorcycles, and other crimes previously committed by the accused.
