Bhubaneswar, Oct 23 — Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Friday assured the public that the state government is fully prepared and has completed all the preparations to tackle the impending cyclonic system.
While speaking to media persons, Pujari urged the people not to panic as the state has extensive experience handling severe weather disasters and is ready to face such challenges.
He said the administration is prepared for the worst-case scenario regardless of the final intensity of the cyclonic storm or landfall location. The minister stated that all concerned departments of the state government as well as district administrations are fully prepared to face any eventualities faced by the probable cyclone.
"There is no need to worry, nor is there any need to be perturbed. This cyclone will also come and pass. And to ensure there is no significant damage, the State Government has already put in place whatever arrangements are necessary," said Pujari.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Friday, a Low Pressure Area has formed over southeast and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation in the region.
“It is most likely to persist over the same region and intensify into a depression on 24th October 2026. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a deep depression on 25th October & into a cyclonic storm over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal by 26th October morning. It would then continue to intensify further and move west-northwestwards towards North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts during the subsequent 2 days,” informed the IMD on Friday.
Meanwhile, IMD Bhubaneswar director Manorama Mohanty said once a depression forms, the system’s likely track will be indicated. She added that it is expected to move towards the west-northwest.
The fishermen in Odisha have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha Coasts on October 26th and 27.
The intensity of rainfall in coastal areas of the state is expected to increase from October 27 evening. The state is expected to experience very heavy rainfall on October 29.
However, on the 26th, coastal districts are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder.
