Jaipur, Oct 8 — The District Consumer Commission-II in Jaipur has issued arrest warrants against Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) Commissioner IAS Siddharth Mahajan and Zone-9 Deputy Commissioner Suryakant Sharma in connection with an old plot allotment case.
The Commission has directed the Jaipur Police Commissioner to arrest both officials and produce them before the Commission on October 12.
The order was passed during the hearing of a contempt petition filed by the complainant, Krishna, concerning a plot allotted under the JDA's Nilay Kunj Housing Scheme.
According to the complainant, she had applied for a plot under the Nilay Kunj Housing Scheme and was allotted Plot No. 454 through a lottery. However, possession was not handed over within the stipulated period.
After waiting for nearly a year, the complainant approached the District Consumer Commission seeking relief.
The case continued for nearly four years, following which the Commission, in 2016, directed the JDA to issue a possession letter for the allotted plot.
The complainant alleged that despite the Commission's order, the JDA failed to comply with the directions.
She subsequently filed a contempt petition before the District Consumer Commission in 2020.
The complainant further alleged that instead of handing over Plot No. 454, the JDA allotted the same plot to another person.
Thereafter, a proposal was made to allot Plot No. 194 to her, but that plot was also subsequently allotted to someone else.
Following this, Plot No. 7 in the Nilay Kunj Scheme, Phase-II, was allotted to the complainant. She deposited the full amount for the plot.
However, she alleged that the JDA subsequently altered the original layout of the plot and reduced the width of its frontage.
According to the complainant, the alteration prevented her from obtaining actual and complete possession of the allotted plot.
The JDA challenged the 2016 order of the District Consumer Commission before the State Consumer Commission and subsequently the National Consumer Commission.
The matter was eventually taken to the Supreme Court.
The complainant submitted that the JDA failed to obtain relief at any of these levels and that the original order remained unimplemented.
During the latest proceedings on the contempt petition, the District Consumer Commission-II issued arrest warrants against JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan and Zone-9 Deputy Commissioner Suryakant Sharma.
The Commission has directed the Jaipur Police Commissioner to ensure that both officials are arrested and produced before the Commission on October 12.
Further proceedings in the case will be known after the officials appear before the Commission and the matter is taken up for hearing.
