Rajasthan: Live bomb found near CRPF campus in Jaipur, safely neutralised

Jaipur, Aug 17 — Panic gripped Amer in Jaipur on Monday morning after a live bomb was discovered in a village field near the CRPF campus.

A local woman spotted the suspicious object while passing through Thakrala ki Dhani in Ward No. 148 at around 10:30 a.m. She alerted her family, and residents informed the police control room, prompting an immediate response.

Amer police and a Civil Defence team reached the spot within minutes and dispersed the crowd that had gathered around the object.

After an initial assessment, the Bomb Disposal Squad was called in. The device was identified as a mortar shell.

Deputy Controller of Civil Defence Amit Sharma said the control room received information at approximately 11:05 a.m. Police and Civil Defence personnel reached the site about eight minutes later and began investigating.

The mortar shell was secured and transported away from the populated area to a secluded location for disposal.

The shell was placed in a deep pit and neutralised at around 2 p.m. A loud explosion was heard during the disposal operation.

Amer Station House Officer Gautam Dotasara confirmed that the live mortar shell had been found among waste in a field in the village.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to determine where the shell came from and how it ended up there.

Civil Defence officials said Amit Sharma led the disposal operation, with CDE Asrar Ahmed, Rajesh Kumar, Yunus Khan, Mohammad Bilal, Deepak Saini and Ghanshyam Sharma among the personnel involved.
