Ram Mohan Naidu leads Tiranga Yatra, calls for honouring freedom fighters' sacrifices

New Delhi, Aug 13 — Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Thursday led a Tiranga Yatra from Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan and said that it was our responsibility to respect the sacrifices and struggles of our forefathers during the Independence movement.

Speaking to reporters, Naidu said, “Over the last 12 years, our country has witnessed remarkable development under the vision and leadership of our respected Prime Minister. We have achieved several milestones in our ministry as well. Today, even a common citizen can fly with pride. We will continue to strengthen this sector and take it to greater heights. We remain fully committed to the goal of a developed India.”

The Union Minister also emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by freedom fighters during India’s struggle for Independence.

“It is our responsibility to respect the sacrifices and struggles of our forefathers during the Independence movement and draw inspiration from them. Our respected Prime Minister also took an important decision regarding the national anthem, and Parliament passed legislation to ensure it receives due respect. It has been widely accepted, and people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari feel connected through our national anthem. This is a positive development for the country,” he said.

Earlier, on August 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged citizens to actively take part in the Centre's 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, terming the Tricolour as "pride" and a "source of motivation".

This year, the campaign has been organised under the theme of 'Vande Mataram'.

Taking to X, PM Modi reposted a Ministry of Culture post, saying, "Our Tricolour is our pride and a constant source of inspiration to always give our best for the nation."

"Let us participate enthusiastically in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' movement and renew our collective resolve to contribute towards building a Viksit Bharat, he said while underlining this year's theme as that of the national song 'Vande Mataram'."

The Tiranga Yatra was organised as part of the ongoing Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, an initiative launched under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to encourage citizens to bring the national flag into their homes and proudly hoist it to celebrate India’s Independence.

The campaign was conceived with the idea of strengthening the personal connection between citizens and the national flag. While the Tiranga has traditionally been associated with official and institutional settings, the initiative aims to transform it into a symbol of personal pride and collective national identity.

The broader objective of Har Ghar Tiranga is to inspire patriotism among citizens and promote awareness about the significance of the Indian National Flag. The Ministry of Culture serves as the nodal ministry for the campaign. This year, Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 is dedicated to the spirit of Vande Mataram.
