Kolkata, Oct 26 — Ratna Debnath, the mother of the R.G. Kar rape & murder victim, on Monday claimed that her name and picture are being used in an ongoing social media campaign against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Debnath had at the same time denied having any connection with that social media campaign against the CBI.
The social media campaign against the CBI started soon after the Supreme Court, earlier this month, had granted bail to Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of state-run R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata, in the CBI-registered case against him accusing him of involvement in the multi-crore financial irregularities at the said medical establishment.
In the social media campaign, the CBI was accused of a lackadaisical probe in the matter, as a result of which Ghosh was granted bail by the apex court.
Social media was flooded with posters using the name of the victim’s mother and the BJP legislator, where a call was given to hit the streets on November 12 on the issue of Ghosh being granted bail by the apex court.
“A protest program is being promoted using my name and photo on various social media platforms, including Facebook. But I am not the initiator of that program. I am not in any way involved in organising, promoting or managing the protest program. Such propaganda is being carried out using my name and photo without my permission,” she said.
She also reacted strongly to some comments attributed to her in the social media campaign promoted under the names of “Voice of Abhaya” and “Voice of Women”.
“I have faith in the country's judiciary and the West Bengal government. I believe that every issue should be resolved with respect for the law and the constitution. I strongly condemn the misuse of my name and picture and the involvement of my name in this misleading campaign. I want to make it clear that I do not know who is taking to the streets and who wants to protest. I have no relation with any of them,” Ratna Debnath said.
