Seven, including gunman, killed and 15 others injured in school shooting in Thailand

Bangkok, Aug 7 — As many as seven people, including the gunman, were killed and 15 others were injured in a shooting incident at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district in Thailand's Nonthaburi city on Friday, local media reported.

The deceased include three students, three teachers, and the suspected shooter. As many as 15 people were injured in the shooting incident and taken to hospital for treatment, the Bangkok Post reported.

The shooting incident occurred at around 10 a.m. (local time) on Friday when volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation received reports of shots fired inside the school. A student who was present inside the school said that the armed man dressed in a purple physical-education uniform fired dozens of rounds at the school.

The suspected shooter, reportedly a 9th-grade student possessing a 9mm handgun, had barricaded himself on the third floor of the school's pink building. According to police, the suspected shooter was found dead, apparently due to self-inflicted injuries, the Bangkok Post reported.

Following the shooting, authorities reached the site of the incident to evacuate students and staff from the campus.

Forensic police have been carrying out an investigation at the site of the incident. Officials have requested people to stop livestreaming of the incident and not travel near the site of the incident to prevent interference with the ongoing operation. Investigators were carrying out a probe to find the motive and reconstruct the sequence of events in the school shooting.

On July 22, five soldiers were killed, and six civilians were injured after unidentified assailants opened fire and threw a bomb at a checkpoint in Narathiwat province of Thailand, Xinhua News Agency reported.

Six attackers, who were in a pickup truck, arrived at the checkpoint's entrance in Narathiwat's Ra-ngae district and launched an attack using firearms and bombs, before fleeing from the spot. Security authorities had launched a search operation to find the attackers.
