Guwahati, Aug 7 — Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has advised students to remain focused on their studies, saying education is the only enduring path to success and warning that "noise and unrest" can never build a meaningful career.
While attending a government programme here on Friday, the Chief Minister appealed to students to make the most of their academic years, describing them as the most crucial phase of life that would never return.
"Today, many things are happening around us," Sarma said, while cautioning young people against being distracted by developments that could divert their attention from education. "There may be noise and unrest, but that will not build a career," he said, stressing that students should stay committed to learning rather than getting drawn into issues that could derail their academic journey.
The Chief Minister said education remains the most powerful tool for social and economic mobility, particularly for middle-class, lower middle-class and poor families, where it serves as the strongest foundation for a better future. "If anyone believes there is an alternative to education, they are mistaken," Sarma said, asserting that there is no substitute for knowledge and sustained academic effort.
Appealing directly to students, he said they should remember that their school and college years are a one-time opportunity. "These years will never return. Those who make the most of them will not have to look back with regret," he said.
Sarma added that life offers numerous opportunities, but only those equipped with knowledge and skills are able to fully benefit from them.
Emphasising discipline and dedication, he said students should devote themselves wholeheartedly to learning, as education opens doors to hope, opportunity and long-term success.
The Chief Minister's remarks come amid his government's repeated emphasis on improving educational outcomes, expanding scholarship and financial assistance programmes, and encouraging students to pursue skill-oriented and specialised education to enhance employability.
