Hyderabad, Sep 8 — Telangana Assembly Speaker, Gaddam Prasad Kumar, said on Tuesday that action will be taken after receiving a report about Monday’s incident at the Assembly entrance in which women legislators of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) were allegedly assaulted by police personnel.
Stating that he has utmost respect for women legislators, the Speaker assured the BRS that he would take action after receiving a report about the incident.
As soon as the House met for the day, BRS members, who were wearing black badges, raised the issue and sought to know what action the Speaker and the government would take action against the police officers involved.
Legislative Affairs Minister, D. Sridhar Babu, said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had sought a report about the incident. He stated that the government respects the women and assured the main Opposition party that appropriate action would be taken after receiving the report.
BRS Deputy Leader in Assembly, T. Harish Rao, expressed ire over the manner in which the women MLAs and former minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy were treated by the police officers.
Harish Rao said when they approached the police for taking action against those involved in manhandling the women legislators, false cases were booked against them. The BRS leader termed this as an attack on all women of Telangana.
Harish Rao remarked that the August House has turned into ‘Kaurava Sabha’ and warned that Congress party will meet the fate of the Karuvas.
The Speaker expressed his unhappiness with Harish Rao’s conduct and told him that he (Speaker) should be angry as abusive words were used against his mother.
Prasad Kumar said he had high respect for Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy and they are his sisters just like his eight sisters. He gave the assurance that he would take action after receiving the report.
Minister Sridhar Babu alleged that BRS legislators were trying to intimidate the Speaker. He said the derogatory remarks made against Speaker were highly condemnable.
Harish Rao stated that BRS MLC Tata Madhu has already clarified that he did not use any derogatory or abusive word against the Speaker but he was still arrested and sent to jail.
