TN CM Vijay to distribute ₹100 cr in welfare aid to 14,000 beneficiaries in Pudukkottai

Pudukkottai, Nov 2 — Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C. Joseph Vijay, will distribute government welfare assistance worth more than ₹100 crore to 14,000 beneficiaries during his visit to Pudukkottai district on Monday, when he will also inaugurate completed infrastructure projects and launch new development works.

The Chief Minister is scheduled to fly from Chennai to Tiruchirappalli in the morning and travel by road to Pudukkottai. His programme includes a four-kilometre journey through the town before attending the government function at the Armed Reserve Police grounds.

Among the major projects scheduled for inauguration is a modern bus stand constructed in Pudukkottai at a cost of ₹23.25 crore and CM Vijay will formally open the facility and dedicate it to public use during the visit.

CM Vijay will also inaugurate a multipurpose indoor sports stadium built at a cost of ₹8 crore, open other completed projects and launch new works.

Welfare assistance will be distributed at the main function, bringing together beneficiaries of various government schemes.

The district administration has made arrangements for the visit, with 4,000 police personnel deployed for security. After completing his engagements, CM Vijay will return by road to Tiruchirappalli and take a flight to Chennai.

The visit comes amid expectations that bye-elections will soon be announced for five vacant Assembly constituencies.

CM Vijay is planning visits to districts containing these seats, giving his Pudukkottai programme political significance alongside its welfare and development agenda.

His Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, or TVK, heads the coalition government after emerging as the largest party in the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election.

Subsequently, AIADMK legislators representing Viralimalai, Karur, Ambasamudram, Perundurai, Madurantakam and Dharapuram resigned from the Assembly and joined TVK, resulting in vacancies in all six constituencies.

The bye-elections have since been held in Madurantakam and Dharapuram, with TVK winning both seats.

The remaining four constituencies—Viralimalai, Karur, Ambasamudram and Perundurai—continue to remain vacant.

Tiruchirappalli East, which Vijay won in the Assembly election and subsequently relinquished, is also vacant.

These five constituencies are, therefore, expected to face bye-elections, although no polling schedule has been announced in the information provided.

With Viralimalai falling within Pudukkottai district, Monday’s visit comes as attention turns to the anticipated electoral contest there.

The official programme, however, centres on welfare distribution and infrastructure, with the bus stand and indoor stadium among the principal completed facilities being opened to the public during the visit.
