Ghaziabad, Aug 9 — Three drug traffickers were arrested following an encounter with the police in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, and 21 kg of 'ganja' (marijuana) was seized from them, officials said on Sunday.
An encounter broke out between police and criminals during an operation against drug trafficking late on Saturday night.
Acting on a tip-off, the SWAT team, the surveillance team, and the Vijaynagar police station conducted a joint checking operation.
According to the police, they received information that three individuals were transporting a consignment of drugs from Indirapuram to Hindon Barrage on a scooter without a number plate.
Speaking about the case, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Kotwali Nagar) Upasana Pandey said, "On the night of August 8, 2026, police received information from an informer that three men were travelling on a scooter without a number plate from Indirapuram towards Hindon Barrage to deliver a consignment of narcotics. Acting on the information, the SWAT team, Surveillance team and Vijay Nagar police set up a checking operation."
"The police team signalled for the scooter to stop, but instead of stopping, the accused fled towards Pushta Road. When the police pursued them, the scooter skidded on a dirt road, causing all three accused to fall. Seeing the police team approaching, the accused allegedly opened fire," she said.
In retaliation, ACP Pandey said that two bullets hit Anas in the leg and Dilshad was hit by one bullet, while Aslam was arrested at the scene.
Additionally, she mentioned that the police recovered 21 kg of marijuana, a scooter without a number plate, two illegal pistols, and empty cartridges from the accused. Both injured accused have been sent to the hospital for treatment.
According to the police, the accused, Anas, has more than a dozen cases registered against him. The criminal histories of the other accused are also being investigated.
Police stated that law and order is normal at the scene and legal action is being taken in the case.
An investigation is underway, and further details are awaited.
