Patna, Aug 29 — A woman and her son lost their lives following a tragic road accident on NH-27 in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Saturday.
The accident occurred near Thikapahi, close to Baruari village, under the Benibad police station area. The SHO of the Benibad police station confirmed the fatal accident.
According to preliminary information, the car carrying Madhu Srivastava and her son, Puneet Srivastava, suddenly went out of control and collided with a roadside culvert.
The impact caused the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a ditch.
Madhu Srivastava, a resident of Simri in Darbhanga district, died at the spot.
She was working as a teacher at Singhwara High School, Darbhanga.
Her son Puneet sustained serious injuries in the fatal accident.
Following the crash, local residents gathered at the site and launched a rescue effort to pull the occupants from the damaged vehicle.
Puneet was taken to a hospital for treatment after being rescued. Given the seriousness of his condition, doctors referred him to another hospital for advanced treatment.
He subsequently died while undergoing treatment.
Benibad police reached the accident site after receiving information and took stock of the situation.
Police also spoke to local residents to gather details about the circumstances leading to the crash.
The necessary legal procedures have been initiated, and the body was taken into custody for further legal proceedings and the post-mortem.
Police said the accident may have been caused by the vehicle travelling at high speed and subsequently losing control. However, the exact circumstances are being investigated.
A police officer from Benibad police station said that the deceased’s family has been informed about the fatal accident. The bodies will be handed over to the family members after the post-mortem examination for the last rites.
The deaths of the mother and son have left their family and relatives in deep mourning.
