Priyanka Gandhi Questions Ceasefire and Leadership Over ‘Operation Sindoor’

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra gave a strong and emotional speech in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, raising serious questions about the government’s handling of the recent ceasefire with Pakistan after Operation Sindoor.

She began by targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying it was strange that India’s ceasefire was not announced by the Indian government, but instead by US President Donald Trump. “For the first time in history, a war stopped, but our government didn’t say it. The US President did. What does that say about our leadership?” she asked.

Doubts on Success of Operation Sindoor

Priyanka said the government is claiming Operation Sindoor was a big success after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, where 25 Indian citizens were killed. But she questioned how, soon after the operation, Pakistan was given important global roles at the United Nations (UN). In June, Pakistan was made Vice Chair of the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee and Chair of the Taliban Sanctions Committee.

She said, “If Operation Sindoor was really successful, then how did Pakistan get this honour? Who is responsible for this?”

Criticism of Government Ministers

Priyanka also supported her party colleague Gaurav Gogoi, who had spoken in Parliament a day earlier. He had asked Defence Minister Rajnath Singh who would take responsibility for the security lapses, but Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly smiled instead of replying. Priyanka pointed this out, asking whether the government was treating a serious issue like a joke.

Response to BJP’s Attacks on Her Family

During her speech, Priyanka also responded to repeated attacks made by BJP leaders on her family, including Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi. She said, “The ruling party has made fun of my mother’s tears. But I want to tell them, my mother cried when my father (Rajiv Gandhi) was assassinated. I know that pain.”

She added, “Real leadership is not just about taking credit when something goes well. True leaders also accept mistakes when things go wrong.”

Tribute to the Victims

At the end of her speech, Priyanka read the names of all 25 people who were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22. This caused loud reactions in the Parliament. Members from the opposition shouted “Indians” to honour the victims, while some MPs from the ruling party kept referring to them as “Hindus”, which led to a brief uproar.

Final Thoughts

Priyanka Gandhi’s speech in Parliament may be remembered as a powerful message demanding responsibility and transparency from the government. She criticised the Centre for its silence over the ceasefire, raised questions on the real impact of Operation Sindoor, and spoke emotionally about her family’s pain and the country’s need for true leadership.

Her speech aimed to highlight the need for answers, especially when national security and the lives of citizens are involved.
