New Delhi, July 20 — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Haryana in-charge and former Rajasthan BJP president Satish Poonia on Monday took the oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha, marking his entry into the Upper House of Parliament.
Speaking after taking the oath, Poonia described the occasion as one of the most memorable moments of his public life.
He said his journey from the semi-arid village of Bewad in Rajasthan to the Rajya Sabha had been made possible through the blessings of the party leadership, the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the unwavering support of lakhs of BJP workers.
Reflecting on his life, Poonia said that as a child he would watch aeroplanes flying overhead and dream of one day reaching great heights.
He recalled moving from his village to a city for higher education, enduring personal tragedies including the loss of his elder brother and later his father, and participating in nationalist movements such as the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi, Kashmir, and Bofors agitations, during which he also faced repression.
He said these experiences strengthened his resolve and reinforced his commitment to public service. Throughout his journey in student politics, youth politics, and public life, he remained guided by the principle of “Organisation First”, which, he said, gave him both opportunities and acceptance despite numerous struggles.
Poonia expressed gratitude to his mother for her unwavering blessings and said the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the BJP had played a defining role in shaping his life and providing him with a platform to serve society.
He also thanked his colleagues, party workers, friends, family members, and well-wishers for standing by him through every phase of his journey. He said public life is measured by the expectations of society and reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of Antyodaya and dedicated public service.
As a member of the Rajya Sabha, he pledged to work with sincerity and strive to fulfil those expectations. Poonia said his elevation to the Upper House was the result of divine blessings, the guidance of PM Modi, the confidence reposed in him by the BJP leadership, and the goodwill of countless party workers.
Concluding his remarks, he expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had supported him throughout his journey and thanked them for their trust, affection, and blessings.
