Noida: Motorbike lifters and mobile snatchers nabbed; 8 held, including 2 minors

Noida, July 7 (IANS) The Noida Police on Tuesday busted a gang involved in two-wheeler thefts and mobile snatching incidents, and arrested at least six offenders with prior records of involvement in such crimes.

Two juveniles were also taken into custody by the Noida Sector-20 police.

The police also made valuable recoveries from their custody, including three motorbikes, 3 mobile phones, 3 knives and an illegal country-made pistol.

The arrests were made after the Noida Sector 20 police launched a clampdown on the theft gang, acting on local intelligence and electronic surveillance, and conducted raids near Kailash Cut in Sector-27.

Six accused were arrested, namely Danish, Appu alias Sandeep, Vikas, Sahil alias Shubham, Sharad Singh Dev, and Suraj Kumar Gupta, while two minors with links to the gang were also taken into police custody.

“An illegally procured .315 bore country-made pistol was seized from Vikas, while illegal knives were recovered from Danish, Sahil, and Sharad,” said an official.

Three accused, namely Appu (alias Sandeep), Vikas, and Sahil (alias Shubham), are history sheeters with cases registered against them at various police stations in Gautam Buddha Nagar for theft, mobile snatching, and violations of the Arms Act.

Police, in its interrogation, found that the accused operated in a co-ordinated and concerted manner – first they would recce a certain location looking for possible targets and then execute it with stolen bikes to avoid getting caught.

The stolen motorcycles were used to commit mobile snatching and other thefts across Noida and the NCR region.

The Noida Sector-20 police lodged a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

The police claimed that the modus operandi of these accused also sheds light on several incidents of mobile theft and snatching that have taken place in adjoining areas.

The police are also investigating whether the gang was involved with other syndicates involved in the buying and selling of stolen goods.
