Actor Aamir Khan has announced that his latest hit film, ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’, will be released exclusively on YouTube from August 1, making it freely available to a wide audience across the world.
In a move that breaks from tradition, the film will not release on any other streaming platform, and will instead be shared directly with audiences through YouTube.
Speaking about the decision, Aamir explained,
“For the past 15 years, I’ve been trying to figure out how to reach people who don’t have access to theatres — whether due to distance, affordability, or other reasons. Now, the timing feels just right.”
He credited the wide reach of YouTube, increased internet access, and the rise of UPI and digital payments in India as key factors that make this possible today.
“My dream is for cinema to be accessible to everyone, at an affordable price — something you can watch when and where you want,” he said.
“If this idea works, it could open the door for more filmmakers to tell new, diverse stories without limitations.”
The film, directed by RS Prasanna, was first released in theatres on June 20 and received a strong response.
Commenting on the partnership, Gunjan Soni, Country Managing Director, YouTube India, said,
“Launching ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ on YouTube marks a powerful moment in making Indian cinema globally accessible. YouTube gives creators and filmmakers unmatched reach, while also offering control over how and where their content is shared.”
She added that this is more than just a release — it’s a new model of film distribution, opening up global opportunities for Indian stories.
With this bold move, Aamir Khan continues to lead innovation in Indian cinema — bringing powerful storytelling closer to the people, one screen at a time.
