The political tension in Bihar grew sharper on Sunday as Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT Cell, strongly criticised RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, accusing him of having more than one voter ID card (EPIC). Malviya also took a dig at the Opposition, calling them an “alliance of Pappus”.
BJP Leader’s Sharp Comment
Posting on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Malviya wrote,
“I still can’t believe Tejashwi Yadav once compared himself to Steve Jobs, and now he is being exposed for having multiple EPICs! From fake claims to fake voter IDs, the hypocrisy is shocking.”
He further stated: “The opposition is not just a group of political parties—it’s an alliance of Pappus.”
Tejashwi’s Allegation Against Election Commission
Earlier, Tejashwi Yadav had raised concerns about the recent voter list released by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on August 1 after a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. He claimed that his name was missing and alleged that his EPIC number had been changed without his knowledge.
“If my EPIC number can be changed, imagine how many other voters may be affected. This looks like a plan to remove genuine voters from the list,” Tejashwi told reporters.
However, the Election Commission responded, saying that it was “quite possible” that the second EPIC number linked to Tejashwi was never officially issued. This raises questions about its authenticity.
Accusations of Electoral Fraud
The matter took a serious turn when Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary accused Tejashwi of deliberate electoral misconduct.
“Tejashwi Yadav is registered in two different constituencies, which is illegal. This must be investigated immediately,” Choudhary said.
He posted several documents on social media, claiming that Tejashwi had a valid EPIC number RAB0456228 registered in the Digha Assembly Constituency of Patna. But he also questioned a second number, RAB2916120, which Tejashwi mentioned.
“Where did this second EPIC come from? Is it a one-time mistake, or is this part of a bigger plan by the RJD?” Choudhary asked.
He further called the issue a “betrayal of democracy”, saying it deserved a high-level inquiry.
Changing Booths and Serial Numbers?
Choudhary also shared records showing changes in Tejashwi’s booth and serial number across various elections:
These shifting numbers have raised fresh doubts about voter data integrity.
Jan Jagran Darpan’s Opinion:
The ongoing war of words between the BJP and RJD is not just a political fight—it reflects deeper issues about voter list accuracy and transparency in elections. If proven true, duplicate EPIC numbers could shake public trust in the electoral system.
It is crucial that the Election Commission investigates these claims promptly and thoroughly. At the same time, political leaders must stop using harsh personal attacks and focus on solutions rather than sensational statements.
