India’s Crude Oil Supplies Secure Amid Middle East Crisis

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri assured that India’s crude oil supplies remain secure despite escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Speaking amid concerns over disruptions caused by the ongoing US–Iran–Israel conflict, the minister said India continues to receive crude oil through diversified import sources and alternative shipping routes. He emphasised that the government has taken several contingency measures to ensure uninterrupted fuel availability across the country. Officials noted that India imports crude oil from around 40 countries and has secured volumes that exceed what would normally arrive through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been affected by the conflict.

The Editorial Team of Behind The Headlines reports that the government has also increased domestic refining capacity and boosted LPG production to stabilise supply. Authorities have prioritised household cooking gas and essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions, while exploring alternative import routes and additional cargo shipments to offset any disruptions. Despite volatility in global energy markets triggered by the conflict, officials say India’s strategic reserves, diversified sourcing, and operational refineries are helping maintain stable fuel availability for consumers.
